The 6.15 km Padma Bridge is a great achievement for the Bengali nation on 50 years of independence and Bangabandhu’s birth centenary. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fully self- financed Padma Bridge on 25 June 2022 after waiting for almost two decades.
Padma Bridge is playing an pivotal role in changing the economy of not only the 21 districts of South- Western region, but also the entire Bangladesh. As a result of the construction of Padma Bridge, more than 3 crore people across 29% of Bangladesh have started benefiting directly and indirectly.
Due to the Bridge, 30-40 lakh new entrepreneurs will be created in the southwestern districts of the country in the next 10 years. Only 500-1000 new factories will be set up in the next 10 years. As a result, 10 to 20 thousand crores will be added to the country’s economy.
Due to the bridge, the poverty of the people in the south-western part of the country will be reduced by 1.01 percent. As a result, national poverty will be reduced by 0.84 percent. 48 to 80 thousand crore taka will be added to the current GDP of the country due to Padma Bridge. As a result, it is expected that the average growth will increase at the rate of 1.2 to 2 percent every year.
